Regardless of your role within an organisation there will be times when you need to offer leadership. It can take courage to offer leadership, and that courage can be developed through building conviction in a proposal or set of actions. This short story offers a way of looking at leadership that can be of benefit to the organisation but also encourages individuals to develop their own leadership capacity. It suggests that you define your job broadly and think like an owner. This mind-set can then support an individual in thinking through complex issues. Perhaps as managers there are some ideas here to develop others’ leadership capacity whether or not they have a management role.
